It is most likely because cats cary germs on their paw and in their claws. When your immune system is weak (as it most likely is if you’re young) and could give you “cat scratch fever”. Additionally, cats step around in their waste (such as a litter box), so they automatically transmit germs all over surfaces. It isn’t recomended for young children, but as you get stronger, it’s fine.
